Tears of Metal currently has 89 Steam achievements. Three come directly from defeating the Act bosses, many track cumulative campaign progress, and the hardest group asks you to complete an Act while avoiding chests, spending, healing, active Emblems, or ally deaths.

Nothing in the current list is permanently missable because campaigns can be repeated. However, a failed Act restriction normally means starting a new campaign attempt for that achievement.

Achievement overview

Category What it includes Best time to attempt
Story bosses Defeat Gilles, Iseult, and Harold Normal campaign progression
Act restrictions No chests, spending, paid healing, active Emblems, or ally deaths Dedicated runs after learning the route
Combat feats Blocking, Perfect Blocks, low-health actions, combo chains, damage spikes Build-specific cleanup runs
Battalion goals Rescue allies and use ally commands Across normal and dedicated campaigns
Economy milestones Gain Triskeles, spend coins, or hold 1,000 coins Naturally across repeated campaigns
Cumulative goals Damage, healing, parries, rescues, and Dragonstones Keep progressing while clearing other goals

Story and boss achievements

Achievement Requirement
Butcher Defeat Gilles the Hog.
Witch Hunter Defeat Iseult the Banshee.
Dragonslayer Defeat Harold the Dragon.

These follow the campaign order. Use the three-Act walkthrough to prepare the route or the boss guide index for fight-specific strategies. You do not need to activate a separate challenge before the fight.

Act 1 restriction achievements

Achievement Requirement
Superstitious Finish Act 1 without opening a Treasure Chest.
Saving It For A Rainy Day Finish Act 1 without spending any coin.
Minimalistic Creed Finish Act 1 without equipping any active Emblem.

These restrictions can be targeted in the same Act 1 run: do not open Treasure Chests, do not spend coins, and leave active Emblem slots empty. Take the shortest practical route and rely on the hero, army, passive progression already available, and rewards that do not violate the displayed conditions.

The achievement specifically says active Emblem. Check the exact in-game slot label before equipping anything; do not assume an effect is safe merely because it looks passive in a reward description.

Act 2 restriction achievements

Achievement Requirement
Voluntary Discomfort Finish Act 2 without opening any Treasure Chest.
Tough It Out Finish Act 2 without spending currency to recover health.
Not One Left Behind Finish Act 2 without any ally dying.
Ascetic Warrior Finish Act 2 without equipping any active Emblem.

It is possible to plan one combined restriction attempt, but protecting every ally while refusing chests, paid healing, and active Emblems is much harder than clearing the achievements separately. For the first completion, combine only the restrictions your current village upgrades and hero can support.

For Tough It Out, avoid every recovery option that charges currency. Free recovery is not prohibited by the Steam description, but always read the current event confirmation before accepting it because event costs can change during Early Access.

Low-health achievements

Achievement Requirement
Barely Made It Finish a level with less than 10% HP.
Last Stand Use your Special below 5% HP.
Cornered Threat Kill 100 enemies while at 10% HP or less in one campaign.
Back from the Brink Heal back from 1% HP.
Living on the Edge Start and finish a boss battle at 10% HP or less.
Heart of a Phoenix Start a battle below 50% HP and finish at full HP.

Do these after the normal campaign clear. Deliberately lowering health can end a run before the condition is registered, and Living on the Edge requires both the start and end of the boss battle to remain within the stated limit.

Paper Cult fixed the tracking for the low-health boss achievement shortly after launch. Update the game before attempting it if an older guide reports that the achievement is broken.

Blocking and parry achievements

The defensive achievement lines become progressively harder:

  • Blocker Extraordinaire, Turtle Master, and The Last Wall require 20, 50, and 100 blocks in one campaign.
  • Razor’s Edge and Clockwork require 30 and 45 Perfect Blocks in one campaign.
  • Great Wall Of Scotland and Bastion of Defense require avoiding 1,000 and 1,500 damage by Blocking in one campaign.
  • Moving Target, Arrow Catcher, and Human Porcupine require blocking 100, 200, and 300 ranged damage in one campaign.
  • Viceral Instinct tracks 125 parries across campaigns.
  • Immortal Defense asks for 50 blocks against attacks that would otherwise kill you.

Use a hero and current equipment that can survive repeated defensive attempts. Do not combine the most dangerous low-health and lethal-block goals with an Act restriction run unless the setup is already proven.

Combo and damage achievements

Important one-run or one-action targets include:

Achievement Requirement
Unstoppable Force Keep a combo chain active for 20 seconds.
No Intermission Kill 100 enemies in one combo chain.
Devastator Deal at least 300 damage to one enemy with one attack.
Devastating Blow Deal at least 500 damage to one enemy with one attack.
Earth-Shattering Blow Deal at least 1,000 damage to one enemy with one attack.
Cataclysm Deal 2,000 total damage in one attack.
Area of Annihilation Kill at least 75 enemies in one attack.

The single-enemy damage achievements and total-damage achievement measure different things. A large area attack can satisfy Cataclysm without dealing the required single-target value for the other line.

The 20-second combo-related unlock was impossible on an early version and was fixed by Paper Cult. Use a current build before dedicating a run to it.

Battalion and ally achievements

  • Guardian requires rescuing 500 allies in one campaign.
  • Army of One requires rescuing 1,000 allies in one campaign.
  • The Shepherd tracks 2,000 rescued allies across campaigns.
  • Tactician tracks 15 ally commands across campaigns.
  • By My Command… requires five Captain kills with Ally Commands in one level.
  • Here Come The Pro’s requires starting a campaign with an ally at MAX rank.
  • Sharing The Moment requires an ally to deal the killing blow to a boss.
  • Questionable Priorities requires opening a Treasure Chest while an ally is waiting for rescue three times across campaigns.

The wording for Sharing The Moment says “an ally,” not specifically another online player. Do not treat it as a confirmed co-op-only achievement unless the current in-game description changes.

Economy and cumulative achievements

The Triskeles achievement chain progresses from First Wages at 600 total to The Benefactor at 23,700. These totals accumulate across campaigns, so keep playing while working on other categories instead of farming the final milestones first.

Other long-term goals include:

  • cumulative Strike damage;
  • cumulative extra Block damage;
  • cumulative healing;
  • parrying enemies that just damaged you;
  • killing Captains immediately after Dodging;
  • destroying 25 and 50 Dragonstones;
  • rescuing allies across campaigns;
  • spending coins and holding 1,000 coins at once.

Check whether the description says in a single Campaign or throughout your Campaigns. That wording determines whether the counter resets when a run ends.

Efficient completion order

  1. Finish a normal campaign. Unlock the three boss achievements and learn the route.
  2. Accumulate passive milestones. Rescue allies, issue commands, gain Triskeles, deal damage, heal, block, and parry while pursuing other goals.
  3. Run the Act 1 restrictions. Combine no chests, no coin spending, and no active Emblems when your permanent progression is strong enough.
  4. Run the Act 2 restrictions. Start with no chests and no paid healing; add ally survival or no active Emblems only if the build remains reliable.
  5. Build-specific cleanup. Target long combos, large single hits, area kills, Perfect Blocks, and ranged blocking.
  6. Low-health cleanup last. Attempt the 1%, 5%, and 10% conditions after you can control incoming damage and recovery.

Achievements not unlocking

  1. Update Tears of Metal to the current standard branch.
  2. Re-read the Steam description and check whether it requires one campaign or cumulative progress.
  3. Finish the level, Act, or results transition before checking Steam.
  4. Restart Steam and the game once.
  5. Verify the installed files.
  6. Repeat the condition on the current branch if it was completed on an older crossplay build.

Patch 0.8.57278 corrected tracking for the no-chest Act achievements and the low-health boss achievement, along with a related 20-second combo unlock. Older reports about those conditions may no longer apply.

Frequently asked questions

How many achievements does Tears of Metal have?

Steam currently lists 89 achievements.

Are there missable achievements?

No achievement is permanently missable because campaigns can be repeated. Act restrictions must be retried on a new run if their condition is broken.

Are any achievements co-op only?

The current Steam descriptions do not explicitly require another human player. Sharing The Moment requires an ally to land the boss killing blow, but the wording does not say “co-op player.”

Can Act restriction achievements be combined?

Yes, their requirements do not directly conflict. Combining them makes the run substantially harder, especially in Act 2.

Does this list apply to Xbox achievements?

Steam currently lists these 89 achievements. Xbox on PC may use a different achievement set or tracking service.
